Matthew (Matt) Tuthill heads real estate asset management for BLG Capital Advisors (BLG), where he serves on the investment team and oversees day-to-day operations of the existing real estate direct investments for the BLG clients, which are comprised of a private American enterprise and its related entities. Existing investments are allocated across various asset classes, including but not limited to residential, office, industrial, hospitality, and retail, both domestic and abroad. BLG also has ownership positions in various real estate operating platforms.
Mr. Tuthill’s primary focus is the direct real estate portfolio, which at the asset level includes review/approval of business plans and construction budgets, lease negotiation, debt placement, identification and remediation of asset shortfalls, review of budgets and performance, determination of project branding, analysis of exit pricing, approval of vendor contracts, and general oversight of strategic operating partners. Additionally, at the portfolio level Mr. Tuthill is responsible for cashflow forecasting and portfolio valuations.
With over thirteen years of experience in real estate investment, Mr. Tuthill joined the firm in 2016 from Starwood Capital, where he spent 6+ years primarily focused on the ST Residential platform (“ST”), which was the vehicle by which Starwood bought and managed the Corus Bank distressed loan portfolio. During his time working on ST, Mr. Tuthill managed over $1 billion in positive cash flows of 21 Florida condominium/apartment assets, as well as led the disposition of the 13-asset (3100 units in 8 different markets), nationwide high-rise apartment portfolio for roughly $1 billion.
Mr. Tuthill serves on the Board of Directors for Industrial Outdoor Ventures, LLC and Karis Cold Storage, LLC and has represented BLG’s clients on multiple advisory committees. Mr. Tuthill has also served on the Associate Board for the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago, including time as the club liaison.
Mr. Tuthill has a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University.
